Persian and Urdu Literature


Persian Literature

Alauddin Khilji's time persian flourished in India. And 2 famous persons related to persian literature spread in India
  • Amir Khusrau=>5 Master pieces of AK
    • Khamsa
    • STarin Khusrau
    • Laila Majnu
    • Hast Bihist
    • Ain-i-Sikkandri
    • Note: in Nooh siphir AK portrayed his love towards India.
  • Hasan-i- Dahlavi (aka. Naimmuddin Shaikh)

Note: initially Mughal rulers used to speak in Turkish and Babur Nama was written in Turkish. Later it was translated to persian.(Wrote: Babur, Translated to Persian by : Abdur Rahim Khan-i-Khana)

Note: from Akbar period onwards persian become court language. the first thing in Akbhar period written in persian was HUMAYUNAMA.

Note: Tujuk-i-Jahangir by Jahangir.

Urdu Literature

  • Urdu means Camp. 
  • Urdu as a language emerged from the military camps were the main language of administrators and commandors were Persians & Turkish. While that of Soldiers (Ardali) it was Khariboli & Suraseni.
  • the interaction among them lead to generation of New language called URDU.
    • most of vocab and phrases in urdu taken from persian and turkish
    • Gramatical structure from Saraseni
    • Spoken structure (Syllable) taken from Khariboli.
  • Amir Khusrau was the Greatest figure of Urdu and for the first time he used urdu for the literary purpose.
  • However it was Bahmani, Golconda, Bijapur Kingdom which gave literary status to urdu.
Note: Bahmani disintegrated to  - Bidar,Bidaar, Golconda, Bijapur, Ahmdnagar
Note: Ba-Shara: those who follow Sharia law, Be-Shara: those who dont follow Sharia law
Note: Chishti, Suhrawardy => Ba Shara ; several other in Be Shara
