• The word come from SATTAR which means Vaishnav Monastry
• the form came into prominence due to the efforts of Mahaguru SHANKARDEV who was vaishnavite bhakthi saint.
• during his period 3 kinds of OJAH PALI folk dances were there. Out of which one, VYAH GOA OJAH PALI, was dedicated to vishnu.
• Shankardev included this VYAH GOA ojah pali into the traditions and rituals of SATTARS. and now onwards the form was called as SATTARIYA

• it is a GROUP DANCE performed by mainly MALES.
