• Ministry of culture recognises Chau as a classical dance but it still awaits the same status by Sangeet Natak Academy
• CChau is mainly found in the area of JHARKHAND, ODISHA, WB.
• as such there are 3 variants of Cchau
• Mayurbhanj Chau : Odisha
• Purulia Cchau: WB
• Saraikela Cchau: Jharkhand
• This is a mask dance and it also include elements of MARTIAL dance.
• Their mask are made up of PAPIER MACHE.
